Flora and Fauna | Farm and Domestic Animals
Pot-bellied and round with relatively little hair, and often a surprisingly vibrant orange colour, domesticated treepigs are important for their ability to eat the scraps from human food and they are kept on a small scale by many rural families and communities as well as farmed on a larger scale for sale. Those kept by families are bred for birth in the season of The Warming and fattened up for slaughter late in The Cooling or in Smallsun, and dishes made from the are often a centrepiece at the celebrations in the deep cold of Panglast.
They maintain powerful claws and tusks, but domesticated varieties are too heavy for easy movement in the forest canopy, so they are relatively easily contained on veldbranches (see Farming) and must be carefully protected from wild predators for whom they form tempting targets.
